![]() ![]() As a freshman, I wanted to surround myself with like-minded women, women who had ambition, were academically focused, who worked hard at personal improvement, and that would encourage me to do the same. Growing up as a dancer, and with 5 sisters of my own, it was important to me that I could find a female focused space on my college campus. My whole life, I have always been surrounded by women. In my time in Sigma Kappa I have served as Diversity and Inclusion chair, Vice President of Programming, and now as Chapter President. In my time at American University, I have become a member of many organizations including choreographing for AU in Motion and DJ for the student radio station WVAU. I am originally from right outside of Philadelphia, but I'm currently living in DC. Hello! My name is Jessa and I am Junior majoring in History with minors in International Studies and Spanish here at AU. In addition to our incredible five philanthropies, we make an effort to come out and support our fellow Greeks in their philanthropic events as well. We also participate annually in the Walk to end Alzheimer's on the national mall. In April 2021, when we weren’t able to hold events in person due to COVID, we made sure to continue our philanthropic efforts virtually! We were able to hold a virtual workout session and wind down with Alpha Epsilon Phi to raise money for Inherit the Earth and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS foundation. These include The Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Gerontology, Maine Seacoast Mission, and The Alzheimer's Association.Įach year, our chapter hosts events to raise money for our philanthropies.Three years ago on campus we launched our first UltraViolet campaign and in 2019 we had our first annual SigKapture the Flag event. Sigma Kappa has five philanthropies which conveniently form the acronym SIGMA. We know that college is a crucial time in our lives, and we are so thankful that we get to experience it with our sisters side by side every step of the way. ![]() It's a place where you experience an overwhelming sense of loyalty and encouragement from everyone around you. Sigma Kappa is a place where you find sisters that will make you wonder how you have gone so long without knowing them. It's a place we can give back to the community and find that giving is so much better than receiving. Sigma Kappa is a place where you can thrive academically, knowing your sisters are there encouraging you every step of the way. We encourage each other by celebrating our differences and knowing that each one of us has something so special to offer: it's our uniqueness that makes our chapter beautiful. As sisters we push each other to become the best version of ourselves. The purpose of Sigma Kappa is to provide women with lifelong opportunities and support for personal development by bringing women together to positively impact their communities. Sigma Kappa was founded in 1874 and found its way to American University in April 2016! Lambda Eta has brought together and empowered women who thrive individually and prosper together while holding close our values of loyalty, friendship, personal growth, and service. ![]()
